GHCCM Announces Two New Team Members

Kate Adair is a native of Nova Scotia, Canada. She is a graduate of the City University of New York where she majored in Anthropology while working at the Asia Society, a non-profit cultural center in New York City. Kate and her family moved to Hickory in 2006 where she became President of the Catawba County Medical Society Alliance. Under her leadership, the Alliance won several state awards recognizing the Alliance's fundraising efforts. Kate was the originator of the "Medicators vs. Litigators" basketball game played between the physicians and attorneys of Catawba County. Proceeds from the game benefitted the MACC program of the Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministries. Kate is working as a Giving Associate in the Development office of the Greater Hickory CCM.

Karen Drum, RN, BSN, CED has joined our health care team as Nurse Administrator. Karen comes to us from Catawba Valley Medical Center where she was a magnet nurse working in the Emergency Department. She graduated from Wilkes Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1993 and then earned the Bachelor's in nursing at Gardner-Webb University in 2006. She has a wealth of experience from her days at Alleghany Memorial Hospital, High Country Home Health, and the CVMC Emergency Department since 2006. She has experience in management, budgets, QI, scheduling, and staffing. She served as preceptor for CVCC Paramedic students and as the 2009 Magnet Captain for the CVMC Emergency Department. We know she is an asset for GHCCM as we move forward in our health care services.

On Saturday, we had the great letter carrier rally at the Hickory Post Office. May 14th is the annual Letter Carriers Food Collection. Residents are encouraged to put bags, boxes, pallets, or whatever food they can donate by their mailbox. Their mail person will pick it up. The food goes to local food pantries. In 2010, GHCCM received over 8,000 pounds from the drive!

GHCCM seeks FRESH PRODUCE

Dear Gardeners,

As the fruits (and vegetables) of your labor pays off, please keep Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry's Food Pantry in mind. GHCCM receives many kind donations of food to feed the hungry in our community. During this season, fresh produce is an exceptional treat. Imagine how delicious some FRESH food would taste if you didn't have the means to purchase or to grow it? People who are in need of nutritional help, literally follow fresh produce into GHCCM as it is being delivered. Your garden can nourish our community. Your generosity can nourish the spirit of God's people. With much appreciation, the Food Pantry Outreach Ministry

Best Regards,

Kate Adair

Support your local Catawba County  medical ministry with your time, talent or treasure!  You can help make more miracles happen!

While the news media spends a lot of time on all the disasters around the world, right here in Catawba County we have been quietly experiencing our own disaster. The unemployment crisis is causing a tsunami at GHCCM; but it is a tsunami of people. More and more people need help and fewer resources due to the economy.  The requests from citizens are exceeding the donations.

We need your time, treasure, and talent!

Miracles happen here.

Blessings,
Roger D. Baker, Ed.D.
